2024 Kidney PREM Portal Data Updated

The 2024 Kidney PREM (Patient Reported Experience Measures) Survey data portal has been updated, offering kidney healthcare professionals across the UK an initial look at patient feedback. While the full report, including detailed analysis and insights, will be published in the coming months, the updated data portal now provides access to the first set of results. These early findings allow you to explore patient experiences filtered by treatment modality, unit, region and more.

What is the Kidney PREM?

The Kidney PREM is a national annual survey developed to capture the experiences of kidney patients in the UK. Led by the UK Kidney Association in partnership with Kidney Care UK, the survey provides a comprehensive picture of patient-reported experiences, covering areas such as overall care satisfaction, transport, privacy and shared decision-making.

The 2024 survey window ran from 16 September to 11 November, with thousands of patients sharing their feedback. While the full analysis is still in progress, the updated portal now includes the initial dataset, enabling healthcare professionals to begin reviewing patient responses.

What’s Included in the Initial Data?

The updated Kidney PREM portal now features early results on key aspects of patient experience, including:

  • Overall experience of care: How do patients rate their care at your unit?

  • Transport: Is the time taken to travel to the unit acceptable?

  • Treatment by the renal team: Do patients feel respected and well-supported?

  • Needling experience: How do patients feel about this aspect of their treatment?

  • Understanding tests and results: Do patients feel informed about their care?

  • Shared decision-making: Are patients involved in decisions about their treatment?

  • Privacy and dignity: Do patients feel their privacy is respected during care?

Although the full report will provide a more detailed analysis, the portal already allows you to filter data by treatment modality (e.g., haemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, transplant), unitregion, and other criteria. This early access can help you identify initial trends and areas for further exploration.

Why Review the Initial Data?

Even at this stage, the Kidney PREM data offers valuable insights for kidney healthcare professionals. Here’s why it’s worth exploring:

  1. Early benchmarking: Compare your unit’s performance against initial indicators.

  2. Identify potential trends: Begin to spot areas of strength or opportunities for improvement.

  3. Prepare for the full report: Use this time to consider how your unit will respond to the detailed findings once they are published.

  4. Engage your team: Share early insights with your team to foster discussions about patient-centred care.

A National Effort for Better Kidney Care

The Kidney PREM has been a vital tool for understanding patient experiences in the UK kidney community since its pilot in 2016. Developed as part of the Transforming Participation in Chronic Kidney Disease (TP-CKD) Programme, the survey has been rigorously validated in partnership with the University of Hertfordshire.

With over 8,000 responses in its first year alone, the Kidney PREM now continues to provide invaluable insights into the patient experience, helping kidney centres across the UK deliver better care.

What’s Next?

The full 2024 Kidney PREM report will be published in the coming months, offering a comprehensive analysis of patient feedback. In the meantime, this initial data provides an opportunity to begin engaging with patient experiences and considering how your unit can use these insights to drive improvements in care.

We encourage you to explore the updated portal and start reviewing the early results today.
