Published: NHSE recommendations on non-emergency patient transport

The NHSE has published recommendations on non-emergency patient transport, including a major focus on patients receiving dialysis.  The report can be read here.

Importantly it includes a new universal commitment to transport support for all journeys to and from renal dialysis, offering access to appropriate specialist transport, non-specialist transport or simple and rapid reimbursement of patient costs, planned through shared decision making. Subject to consultation, it is anticipated that the recommendations will be incorporated into new contracts from April 2022 and existing contracts from April 2023.

A big thank you to Fiona Loud for representing people with kidney disease on the NHSE expert advisory group. Some of the elements of the multi-stakeholder report Finding Our Way Together are included in the report.
