Linda Tarm appointed as UKKA Trustee: Honorary Membership and Policy Secretary

The UK Kidney Association is delighted to announce the appointment of Linda Tarm as our newest Trustee. In her new role as MPT Honorary Membership and Policy Secretary, Linda will play a pivotal role in supporting the development of the UKKA’s multi-professional membership, fostering leadership, and influencing national kidney health policy.

Linda joins the UKKA with a wealth of experience in both clinical practice and healthcare leadership. Currently on secondment to the London Kidney Network (LKN), Linda co-chairs the Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) Prevention Workstream, where her leadership has been instrumental in transforming CKD care in London. Her work has focused on early identification, coding, and management of CKD in primary care settings, as well as the optimisation of SGLT2 inhibitors as cardio-renal protective agents. Collaborating with multi-professional teams, patients, and stakeholders across London and beyond, Linda has driven several initiatives to improve kidney care outcomes.

Among her key achievements at the LKN, Linda has led the development and implementation of CKD early identification and optimisation pathways across London, which have been replicated by other renal networks in England. She has worked closely with Integrated Care System (ICS) teams to support local kidney and cardio-renal metabolic (CRM) programmes, develop CKD and medicines optimisation guidelines, and implement innovative tools such as search dashboards and clinician resources.

Her work has also led to significant investments in kidney care, with her collaborative efforts helping secure £10 million in funding from NHS England to transform kidney care in London over the next two years. Additionally, she has convened a national CKD community of practice, creating a platform for shared learning, collaboration, and policy influence.

Linda’s commitment to patient care extends beyond CKD prevention. She also project-manages the LKN’s Supportive Care and Advanced Kidney Care Workstreams, focusing on delivering comprehensive and multi-disciplinary care across the entire kidney care pathway. Her leadership in driving multi-professional participation has been key to optimising patient outcomes.

Prior to her work with the LKN, Linda held leadership roles at Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, where she led the largest renal dietetic service in London, and at the London Diabetes Clinical Network. Her deep clinical expertise, combined with her strategic insight, has enabled her to excel in transforming healthcare delivery and promoting multi-professional collaboration.

As a Trustee at the UKKA, Linda aims to use her skills and experience to grow and develop UKKA’s membership, ensuring that multi-professional input is integrated throughout the kidney care pathway. She is particularly passionate about developing leadership capabilities within the UKKA, fostering diversity, and promoting the representation of minority groups in leadership roles.

Linda will also support the UKKA in its national policy work, engaging with partners to leverage opportunities for collaboration and help shape policy that impacts kidney care across the UK. Her experience in leading complex healthcare initiatives will be crucial as she works to ensure the UKKA’s strategic communications remain effective and aligned with our mission to improve kidney health for all.

We look forward to the contributions Linda will bring to her new role and are excited to have her join our leadership team.
