Professor Paul Cockwell steps down from the role of Renal Association Clinical Vice President (CVP) following his election as the next President.
The RA Board is seeking expressions of interest from outstanding Renal Association members to take responsibility for the governance of the RA’s clinical activity.
Applicants should be clear, strategic thinkers interested in the important charitable aims of the RA. You should be able to demonstrate objectivity, willingness to contribute time and energy and willingness to be accountable to the organisation.
You will be expected to attend the trustee board meetings (four face to face meetings per year plus monthly board teleconferences) and will be asked to attend and/or chair sub-committee meetings or task and finish groups including the programme committee for UK Kidney Week®. Experience of chairing meetings is essential.
Paul says of his time as CVP:
"The Renal Association Clinical Vice President (CVP) post has been the most rewarding and varied leadership role of my career to date.
My main concern coming in as CVP was that my ability to contribute would not be proportionate to the time and energy that I committed. However this concern was unfounded; as CVP you are at the cross-roads of clinical services, national stakeholders, patient organisations and professional bodies, and therefore you can shape the agenda and contribute to outputs that matter for patients and professionals, and see the benefits achieved as a consequence of your involvement.
It is also an enduring pleasure and privilege to work with outstanding colleagues (one of the first rules of considering any role!), who do excellent work in areas such as clinical services, guidelines, patient safety, patient leadership, COVID-19 response, Special Interest Groups, UKKW, KQuIP, and the Renal Registry.
So, for any colleagues looking to use their skills and energy to contribute through national leadership, please do consider applying for the role of CVP and feel free to email me on paul.cockwell@uhb.nhs.uk if you want to discuss."
