Broadly speaking there are two forms of Nephrotic Syndrome.
The first is more typical in children and is characterised by a dramatic beneficial response to cortico-steroid therapy. This is therefore called Steroid Sensitive Nephrotic Syndrome (SSNS).
By contrast, patients who do not respond to steroids have a different pattern of disease and this is called Steroid Resistant Nephrotic Syndrome (SRNS).
