Pre-referral investigations

"Pre-referral investigations are needed to ensure that patients are healthy enough to receive a kidney transplant"

There are many investigations which need to be completed before the patient is referred to the transplantation team. Co-ordination of investigations for work up with other clinical departments has been highlighted as a significant barrier for patients to access timely tranplantation. In order to address this, pre-referral assessments and proformas have been implemented by some participating centres, to ensure that the correct information is collected in a timely manner and passed on to the relevant departments. This includes electronic referrals and patient held investagation leaflets.
