The 2021 Kidney Patient Reported Experience Measure (PREM)

The 2021 Kidney Patient Reported Experience Measure (PREM)

Putting the patient voice at the heart of service improvement

The Kidney PREM collection will take place for six weeks from 1st November – 12th December this year.

Digital collection

Nearly 10,000 patients responded in last year’s digital Kidney PREM survey. This year, the collection will once again be digital and open to all people living with CKD being treated in the UK.

Centres will be provided with regular updates to enable them to keep track of their online response numbers during the six-week collection window.

We understand that for some patients, completing the survey online is not possible, and we want to make sure everyone has a chance to have their say about their kidney care. We will be providing a limited number of paper surveys and pre-paid return envelopes to each centre - the numbers distributed will be defined by your kidney centre size.

Supporting Kidney PREM champions

Learning from the Welsh Renal Network, and with the support of the Kidney Quality Improvement Partnership, we aim to provide some virtual Kidney PREM champion training sessions during October, for anyone involved in coordinating and engaging their staff and patient community in the Kidney PREM – watch this space for more information on when and how to access these free online sessions.

We will be in touch with all centres over the next month with further details, information, resources and support to make sure this year’s Kidney PREM is an even bigger success.

Improving patient experience - the importance of local stories

Thanks to your support, the kidney community has made a real success of establishing an annual patient experience survey. But we know that the survey is just a means to an end, and it is how that information is used to improve patients care and experience that really matters. We would love to hear about and share the many examples of changes that kidney teams have introduced as a result of the Kidney PREM, to engage with patients and improve care. By sharing all the activity your local kidney team, volunteers or patient groups have done in response to the Kidney PREM, we can really inspire more teams to learn from the innovation and improvements made right across the UK, improving the experience for people living with kidney disease.

Thank you for your continued participation and support of the Kidney PREM
