Our goal is to provide a detailed and level structured e-learning module for renal nurses; not just to increase individual knowledge but to raise national standardized competency levels in care and management of Haemodialysis Arterio-Venous (AV) access

Comprises of:

  • Pre Quiz
  • Vascular Access for Haemodialysis
  • Assessment of mature AV Access – Look, Listen, Feel and Drain
  • Cannulation of AV Access
  • Complications associated with AV Access
  • Post Quiz

Within MAGIC it was decided that we needed to raise awareness of Arteriovenous access its care and management. To this end awareness materials were developed. This was to help raise awareness for patient


Tips for sustaining the project

  • When a new member of staff joins your team who will be needling, don’t forget to get them to complete the MAGIC e-learning course
  • When you have a new patient in your unit, don’t forget to give them a rope ladder/ buttonhole cards
