Request from Prof Rukshana Shroff, Paediatric Representative of the International Society of Nephrology Renal Disaster Relief Taskforce
June 1, 2023
We are writing to request your urgent support for the patients living with kidney disease in Sudan. Due to the current fighting the lives of the 8000 patients living on hemodialysis and over 4500 patients living with kidney transplants are being threatened because dialysis and immunosuppression supplies are running dangerously low. Of these 200 are children, 10 on PD and the rest on HD; we don't know how many transplanted patients they have. Evacuation to neighbouring countries continue, but opportunities for this are very few, with vast distances and harsh climatic conditions making the border crossing difficult. The ISN has set up a task force to coordinate efforts and to raise funds to purchase these supplies until a more sustainable solution can be developed in collaboration with other international organizations. We are working with Industry too and so far Fresenius have donated 10,000 dialysis kits (for adults and paeds).
As with the campaign to support the dialysis and transplant patients in Ukraine last year (also around 10,000 patients), the donations are being collected through the ISN in collaboration with Direct Relief, a non-governmental organization which was very instrumental in delivering support for the patients in Ukraine. Donations can be made through the following link:

Thank you for your consideration and your contributions.
