History Highlights
For 75 years, we have brought together and supported kidney professionals across the UK. To mark this milestone, our History Highlights series will explore key moments from the past, celebrating the dedication, innovation and collaboration of the multi-professional kidney community.
Each month, we will feature a story from our history, showcasing the breakthroughs that have shaped nephrology and the incredible professionals behind them. From the early days of dialysis and transplantation to advances in pharmacy, peritoneal dialysis, rare kidney diseases and basic science, these highlights will reflect the rich history of our community.
Our first feature, written by Professor John Feehally, UKKA Archivist and main author of UK Kidney History, explores the beginnings of haemodialysis in the UK.
Throughout 2025, we will continue to highlight the evolution of our profession, featuring the stories of kidney doctors, nurses, pharmacists, scientists, dietitians, technicians, and many others who have contributed to improving patient care.
Join us throughout 2025 to explore the history of kidney care and the role of the multi-professional team in driving progress.
